"The victim, a mass media student, lodged a complaint that Pankaj Mishra, a student of Bachelor of Management Studies, had raped her at his residence on July 21 after which he was apprehended," BB Rathod, Senior Inspector at Chembur Police Station said.
The police say they first met on Facebook a month ago and became friends, and subsequently offered to help her out with an advertising project.
When she went to his house on Wednesday evening, Pankaj allegedly raped her at knife point. While the girl has said nobody was home at the time of the rape, Pankaj's family claims they were all present and never saw the victim visit their son.
"How can he rape anybody when we were at home? He is being framed," says Tejnarayan Mishra, Pankaj's father.
Pankaj's father works in the same college, police said adding that the victim was taken to Nagpada police hospital for medical examination and further probe was on.
"He will be in police custody till July 31. The police will investigate the charges of rape," said JS Padam, lawyer for the accused.
